During initial consultations for a breast lift procedure, many of my patients ask how to make breast lift results last? This is a very understandable question so I decided to post some of my advice for women who might be considering the breast lift procedure.

What Exactly is a Breast Lift?

In general, breast lift, (mastopexy) is a procedure designed to remove excess skin, raise and reposition breasts. Additional adjustments to the position of the nipple, shape and contour can also be made during a breast lift procedure to bring back a more youthful breast appearance. Many women who are considering a breast lift have lost breast volume after weight loss or having children and elect to also add breast implants during their breast lift procedure. A breast lift can also be combined with a breast reduction if your breast are too large and uncomfortable

After a breast lift procedure and full recovery, my patients are very happy with their results and feel much more confident with their appearance. In fact, according to RealSelf breast lift reviews, as of the date of this post, 95% of 1,122  patients felt that their breast lift was “Worth It”.

How to Make Breast Lift Results Last

How to make breast lift results last is the subject of this post so let’s review what I cover with my patients on how to promote lasting results. First it is important to understand that every person is unique. Different skin condition and thickness, size of implants, (if added), high impact exercise and how the guidance below if followed will all have an impact on how long results will last. That said, it is not uncommon for patients to enjoy the results of their breast lift for more than 20 years before their breasts begin to show the effects of gravity again. However, your breasts will likely never return to their appearance before your breast lift.

How to Assure Lasting Results

It is best to wait until you are finished having children: Pregnancy and breast feeding puts your body through a lot, and that certainly includes the breasts. Pregnancy often brings with it substantial weight gain which also occurs in the breasts. And breast feeding continues to stress the breast’s skin condition.

Wait until you have achieved your ideal weight: Fluctuations in weight will stretch skin and cause loose skin. In order to make breast lift results last for as long as possible, get to a weight you are comfortable with and can maintain.

Follow my post-operative instruction carefully: After your breast lift, I will provide guidance on various activities like when it is ok to drive again, when you can get back to light exercise and then full exercise, etc. I usually recommend compression garments such as a support bra to support your breast and reduce swelling. Following these instruction will assure a smooth recovery and is how to make breast lift results last.

Stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet, especially during your recovery: Stay hydrated and eat a healthy and nutritious diet! This is an important part of the healing process and your full recovery. During your recovery, drink plenty of water and eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. And eat on a regular schedule to maintain the continuous flow of nutrients that you body needs to recover.

Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking: Alcohol and tobacco products will slow the healing process and can reduce how well your incisions heal. Alcohol thins blood and can lead to bleeding complications.

Sleep on your back: This will help eliminate pressure on your breasts and incision. Ligaments and tissues in your breasts can also be strained and sag downward for hours at a time as you sleep. Even if you are not used to or don’t like to sleep on your back, it is very important for you to do so for the first two weeks of you recovery.

Choosing the right bra is important: A medium support comfortable bra for regular daily activities and a firm support bra when exercising and during other high impact activities is one of the best ways to make breast lift results last. It is estimated that over half of women are wearing bras that are the wrong size. If a bra is too loose, it will allow breast tissue to stretch. Making sure you are wearing a bra that provides proper support.

Your breast’s skin is as sensitive as your face’s skin: Shade them or wear sun protection. UV rays are very damaging. They rob elasticity from the skin and cause any stretching of the skin to eventually become permanent.

Following these guidelines is how to make breast lift results last! If you are considering a breast lift, schedule a consultation with me and let’s plan a breast lift procedure for you that is tailored to your unique goals.
