A breast lift is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts. A breast lift can also reduce the size of the areola. If your breasts are small or have lost volume after pregnancy or significant weight loss, breast implants can combine with a breast lift to increase the size and firmness of your breasts. Is Breast Lift an Option For Me
A breast lift in Jacksonville can enhance the appearance of your breasts and self-confidence. But before you make a final decision to have breast lift surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Csikai.
The best candidates for breast lift are healthy, emotionally stable women who are realistic about what a breast lift procedure can accomplish for them. Women with smaller breasts generally enjoy the most enhancement however, breasts of any size can be lifted. Just remember that if you do have larger breasts, proper support is important to maintaining the results of your breast lift.
Many women elect to have a breast lift in Jacksonville at First Coast Plastic Surgery because pregnancy and nursing or weight loss has left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts and they wish to return their breasts to their former shape and size. A word of caution to women who are planning to have more children. You may want to delay your breast lift procedure until you are finished having and nursing children to avoid recreating the appearance all over again. That said, there are no special risks with breast lifts that affect future pregnancies and the procedure usually doesn’t interfere with breast feeding.

Choosing the Right Breast Implant
If you are considering breast lift in Jacksonville, choosing the right breast implant may be important in achieving the appearance you desire. If you choose to have implants added to your procedure, during your consultation, Dr. Csikai will help you select the size and type of implants most suited to achieving your goals. Dr. Csikai’s recommendations will consider your physical size, the shape and width of your chest and your breasts. Dr. Csikai will also consider the activities that make up your typical day such as the types of clothes you like to wear and any activities and exercises that you do. This information coupled with your goals will help Dr. Csikai recommend the best implants for you.
Breast Implant Sizes
The size of breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters or cc’s rather than bra cup-size. This is because there are no true standards in cup size. It seems that every brand’s cup size is a little different. But, if you have a rough idea of your desired cup size, we can estimate the implant size and possibly shape that will most accurately achieve your desired appearance. There are other factors such as implant placement; above or below the muscle and the type of implants that will all be considered in recommending implant sizes for your breast lift in Jacksonville.
Types of Breast Implants
Dr. Csikai offers a number of different types of breast implants to assure that he can properly address the unique goals of each patient. There are three types of breast implants: saline, silicone and shaped gel. Saline and silicone breast implants are available with a smooth or textured surface. Shaped gel breast implants are only available with a textured surface.
Dr. Csikai recommends saline implants for most patients for a number of reasons. Insertion and placement can be performed through a smaller incision, the implant is filled with saline after it is placed allowing for more precise sizing. And in the event of a rupture, saline is simply absorbed by the body. The only patients that are not good candidates for saline breast implants are women with very little body fat and those with thin breast skin. These patient are more likely to experience implant rippling. In choosing the type of implant you prefer, you will be able to hold and feel the differences of each type of implant during your initial consultation.
Saline
Breast Implants
Saline implants have a silicone outer shell and are filled with sterile salt water. They are available with a smooth and a textured surface. The empty implant shell is usually placed and then filled to the desired size. Saline implants are available to patients over the age of 18.
Silicone
Breast Implants
Silicone implants also have a silicone outer shell and are filled with silicone gel. Silicone implants are also available with a smooth or textured surface. Silicone implants are available to women over the age 22. However they are available to breast reconstruction patients of any age.
Shaped Gel
Breast Implants
Mentor CPG shaped gel breast implants also have a silicone outer shell and as the name implies, are filled with a gel that is designed to help the implants retain their shape. These Mentor implants are made with “SILTEX® Microtexture that lowers the chances of developing capsular contracture, (scar tissue that can build up around the implant). Shaped gel implants are available to women over the age of 22 and breast reconstruction patients of any age.
Breast Lift Surgery
Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure and is performed at First Coast Plastic Surgery’s on-site ambulatory surgical center with the patient under general anesthesia.
Aesthetically speaking, breast lift in Jacksonville will lift breast tissue, nipple and areola to create and improve symmetry, firmness and a more youthful appearance. Breast implants can be added to produce volume. And if your areolas are larger than you like, they can be reduced during the procedure.
Depending on all that can be involved in a breast lift, the procedure can take anywhere from approximately an hour and a half to three and a half hours. The appropriate approach and techniques used will depend on a variety factors and your goals. Your breast shape and size, degree of sagging, amount of extra skin will all be carefully considered. Dr. Csikai will recommend one of the following incision options:
- Circumareolar (Doughnut) Incision: Some patients, especially those with relatively small breasts and minimal sagging may be candidates for this modified procedure that requires less incisions and barely visible scaring. Incisions are made around the edge of the areola and another outer circular incision is made as required. The skin between the two incisions is removed and the remaining beast skin drawn in is reattached at the edge of the areola. The different skin tone between the breast and areola make the scar at the edge of the areola almost invisible after full recovery.
- Vertical (Lollipop) Incision This incision pattern is best suited to patients with smaller breast sizes, especially when breast implants are added to restore volume. It consists of a circular incision around the areola and a second vertical incision from the bottom of the areola down. The addition of the downward incision allows for additional contouring of the breasts.
- Wise (Anchor) Incision: As with the other two incision patterns, The anchor incisions are made around the areola, then from the bottom of the areola down to the fold, (where the bottom of the breast meets the torso, and another incision is made horizontally in the fold, centered on the vertical incision. The wise incision allows for the most reshaping and contouring.
