Initial Consultation

The first step of any plastic surgery procedure is a consultation with your surgeon. You will meet personally with Dr. Csikai to discuss in detail why you are considering or are interested in breast implant revision in Jacksonville at First Coast Plastic Surgery and how or what you would like to alter or improve about your breasts. After carefully listening and understanding, Dr. Csikai will explain options such as the types of implants and surgical techniques that are best suited to achieving your goals. Also during your initial consultation, you should feel free to ask Dr. Csikai any questions that you have.

If you would like to proceed after your initial consultation, you will meet with our surgery coordinator who will confirm all the decisions you have made with Dr. Csikai and go over the surgery fees. Your breast implant revision procedure will be scheduled and you will receive detailed instructions about how to prepare for your procedure, including instructions about smoking and any medication or supplements you might be taking.

Incision Locations

Breast implant revision is very similar to your original breast augmentation procedure, and almost always involves replacing the patient’s current implants. Dr. Csikai will insert your new implants through an incision. The incision can be made in one of two locations. However, Dr. Csikai will try to make incisions in the same location they were made originally.

The most common location is under the breast where the breast meets the chest. This incision is called an inframammary incision, commonly referred to as a “Fold” incision. This location accommodates a wide variety of implant types and sizes and also allows Dr. Csikai to size and shape your breasts to best meet your goals.

The other incision location that is generally reserved for other breast procedures where it is necessary is called is the peri areolar incision. This incision is made in the center of the breast around the edge of the areolar where the change in skin tone helps minimize and hide visible scaring.

Implant Placement

The placement of your implants can also be changed during breast implant revision in Jacksonville at First Coast Plastic Surgery. If you are trying to achieve a different feel or appearance or if you are changing the type or shape of your implants, it may be necessary to place the new implant differently than where they were originally placed. Placement can effect appearance and also your comfort during certain activities. There are two placement options that you will have already discussed and decided with Dr. Csikai during your initial consultation.

Subglandular Placement

Subglandular means that the implants are placed directly behind the breast gland, above the muscle. Subglandular placement can be an option for women who already have some volume. However for some patients, this placement can end up looking unnatural and can be uncomfortable for physically active women. If the patient has thin breast tissue, there is also a chance of rippling with saline implants.

Subpectoral Placement

Subpectoral means the implants are placed behind or under your pectoral chest muscles. Dr. Csikai prefers subpectoral placement for a number of reasons. Subpectoral placement reduces the potential for capsular contracture, (buildup of scar tissue around the implant). It also helps in maintaining a more natural feel and appearance and eliminates the possibility of rippling. Subpectoral placed implants are also less likely to move from where they were placed.
