BROW LIFT

JACKSONVILLE,
FLORIDA

Brow Lift in Jacksonville, Florida.

Also Known As A Forehead Lift

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that many women and men have chosen to restore a more youthful, brighter appearance. A brow lift is an excellent procedure to correct drooping brows and improve the horizontal lines and furrows that develop the forehead.

A brow lift in Jacksonville at First Coast Plastic Surgery addresses the muscles and tissues that cause creases. This smooths forehead skin and slightly raises the eyebrows. The brow lift can be performed in a couple of ways depending on the patient’s preferences and goals. The conventional surgical method involves an incision that is hidden just behind the hairline. The other option is endoscopic where Dr. Csikai uses a viewing instrument that allows the procedure to be performed with minimal incisions. Both techniques result in a smoother forehead and brighter appearance.

If you’re considering a brow lift in Jacksonville, the information below offers additional details about the brow lift procedure, how it’s performed, the recovery period and the results you can expect.

Am I A Good Candidate For Brow Lift?

A brow lift is most commonly performed for patients who are among the 40-60 age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, it can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines in their forehead. Individuals with inherited conditions, such as a low, heavy brow or furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure.

Brow Lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift to provide a smoother overall look to the face. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may also be performed at the same time as a brow lift, especially if a patient has significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids. Sometimes, patients who believe they need upper-eyelid surgery find that a brow lift is better suited to achieving their goals.

About Brow Lift in Jacksonville

By David N. Csikai, M.D.

Your Initial Consultation

If you are interested in a brow lift in Jacksonville at First Coast Plastic Surgery, the first step is an initial  consultation with Dr. Csikai. A brow lift procedure is like most cosmetic procedures in that it is unique to each patient. In your initial consultation, Dr. Csikai will want to know the specific aspects of your brow or forehead, eyebrows, and even eyes that you are most interested in addressing. He will also need to evaluate your face and skin condition. After his close examination and an understanding of your goals, Dr. Csikai will give you his recommendations on how a brow lift procedure can be tailored to best achieve your goals.

If you elect to move forward with the brow lift procedure, you will be given detailed information about preparing for the procedure, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins, supplements and medications. If you smoke, it is especially important to stop smoking at least a week or two before your surgery and during your recovery period. Smoking inhibits blood flow to the skin, and can slow your recovery and affect your final results. In preparing for your brow lift you should also arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after your surgery.

About The Brow Lift Procedure

A brow lift procedure is performed at First Coast Plastic Surgery’s on-site state licensed ambulatory surgical center with the patient under general anesthesia. Some minor brow lifts can be performed under sedation and local anesthesia.

During your initial consultation, you would have already decided which option is best suited to achieving your goals: the classic surgical method, or the endoscopic browlift.

The Classic Surgical Brow Lift:

An incision is made well into the hairline to help hide any scaring. Working through the incision, the skin of the forehead is carefully lifted so that the excess underlying tissue can be removed and the muscles of the forehead can be altered or released. The eyebrows may also be elevated and excess skin at the incision point will be trimmed away to help create a smoother, more youthful appearance.

The incision is then closed with sutures or clips depending on the extent of the procedure. Again, depending on the extent of the procedure, it may be necessary to cover the incision with gauze padding and wrap the head with an elastic bandage to secure your brow in its new position for a few days.

The Endoscopic Browlift:

Rather than making one long coronal incision, Dr. Csikai will make three, four or five short scalp incisions, each less than an inch in length. An endoscope, which is a pencil-like camera device connected to a television monitor, is inserted through one of the incisions, allowing the surgeon to have a clear view of the muscles and tissues beneath the skin. Using another instrument inserted through a different incision, the forehead skin is lifted and the muscles and underlying excess tissue is removed or altered to produce a smoother appearance. The eyebrows may also be lifted to a higher position by sutures beneath the skin’s surface.

When the lift is complete, the scalp incisions will be closed with sutures. And like the classic brow lift, it may be necessary to cover the incisions with gauze padding and wrap the head with an elastic bandage to secure your brow in its new position for a few days.

Recovery After A Brow Lift

The immediate post-operative experience for a patient who has had a classic brow lift may differ significantly from a patient who had the procedure performed endoscopically.

Classic Surgical Brow Lift:

Patients may experience some numbness and temporary discomfort around the incision, which can be controlled with prescription medication. Patients who are prone to headaches may be treated with an additional longer acting local anesthesia during surgery as a preventive measure.

You may be instructed to keep your head elevated for two to three days following surgery to keep the swelling down. Swelling may also affect the cheeks and eyes however, this should begin to disappear in after 2 to 3 days.

As nerves heal, numbness on the top of your scalp may be replaced by itching. These sensations may take as long as six months to fully disappear. If bandages were used, they will be removed a day or two after surgery.

Endoscopic Brow Lift:

Patients typically experience some numbness, incision discomfort and mild swelling. Incision site pain is typically minimal and can be controlled with medication. Endoscopic browlift patients usually experience less of the itching sensation felt by patients who have had the classic brow lift.

Patients who elect to have a brow lift are usually up and about with 2 to 3 days and should be able to gently wash their hair within 3 to 4 days. Most patients are back to work within 10 days but must avoid strenuous work or activities for 3 weeks or so after surgery. And also avoid exposure to heat and direct sunlight for a few months.

Most patients are very pleased with the results of their brow lift and how much this relatively minor procedure has enhanced their appearance.
