I’m often asked about breast augmentation and pregnancy. To be more specific, many of my patients have asked is it is better to wait until after having children. With breast augmentation and pregnancy, there are pros and cons with breast augmentation before pregnancy and also waiting until after that I explain and discuss with my patients. However, it really depends on each woman’s individual plans and goals. These are the main points I cover with patients who ask about breast augmentation and pregnancy and breast feeding.

Pregnancy and Nursing Will Likely Change Your Breasts

It’s no secret that it is completely natural for women to gain at least a little bit of weight during pregnancy. And the breasts milk glands will begin to do their work both before and after your baby arrives. Since breast tissue is comprised of both fatty tissue and milk glands, breast will likely grow with the hormonal changes associated to pregnancy.

Key Points About Breast Augmentation Before Pregnancy and Nursing

First, an important to note about breast augmentation and pregnancy is that breast implants will have no effect on your ability to become pregnant or on nurse your child after delivery. However, remembering my point above about how your breast will likely grow during pregnancy and nursing, future mothers should consider the likely hood of having uncomfortably large breasts as a result of having breast implants combined with normal hormonal growth. Another consideration is the appearance of your breasts after pregnancy and nursing. Some of my patients have returned for a breast revision after their pregnancy and nursing. For these reasons, it might be best to wait if your are planning your pregnancy in the near future.

Key Points About Breast Augmentation After Pregnancy and Nursing

There are some advantages to waiting for your breast augmentation until after child bearing. As mentioned above, your breasts will likely change during and after your pregnancy(‘s). Sometimes not for the better. Having a breast augmentation after having and nursing your baby(‘s) presents an opportunity to contour and restore your breasts back to or even better than their appearance before having children. You might even want to combine your breast augmentation with other procedures such a liposuction, commonly referred to as a Mommy Makeover.

In The End, When You Elect To Have Your Breast Augmentation Is Entirely Up To You.

If you have questions about breast augmentation and pregnancy, the best thing to do is to schedule a consultation to discuss your unique goals in detail so I can help you decide when breast augmentation might be right for you.
