Recovery may involve more muscle soreness, tightness, and temporary discomfort because the pectoralis major muscle is partially elevated during surgery. Some patients also experience animation deformity, in which the implant moves slightly during forceful contraction of the chest muscle. While this movement is often mild, it can be more noticeable in women who frequently perform weight training or other activities requiring repetitive pectoral muscle use.
The decision between over vs under muscle breast implants should never be based on a single advantage or disadvantage. Instead, I consider your breast anatomy, tissue thickness, skin elasticity, activity level, and aesthetic goals to determine which implant position is most likely to provide a natural appearance, long-term stability, and a result that complements your body.
