When patients visit me to discuss facial rejuvenation, one of the most common questions I hear is: “Does a mini-facelift include the neck?” The short answer is no. A mini-facelift focuses primarily on the mid to lower face and does not address loose skin or muscle banding in the neck.

What a Mini-Facelift Treats

A mini-facelift is designed to improve mild to moderate signs of aging in the face, particularly in these areas:

  • Nasolabial folds – the deep lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
  • Jowls – early sagging or drooping along the jawline.
  • Cheeks – restoring gentle lift and improving facial contours.

Because the incisions are smaller and the lifting is more limited compared to a traditional facelift, recovery is typically faster, scarring is more discreet, and patients enjoy a refreshed, natural look without appearing “overdone.”

What a Mini-Facelift Does Not Treat

A mini-facelift does not tighten the neck area. If your main concerns are loose neck skin, vertical muscle banding, or fullness under the chin, then either a full facelift, (rhytidectomy) with neck rejuvenation or a standalone neck lift may be a better option.

During a full facelift, the underlying muscles of both the face and neck are tightened and excess skin is removed to restore a smoother, more youthful contour from the cheeks down through the neck. A neck lift alone can specifically target sagging and excess skin beneath the chin for patients who are otherwise satisfied with the appearance of their face.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Mini-Facelift?

The ideal candidate for a mini-facelift is someone in their 40s to 50s who has early signs of facial aging but does not yet have significant neck sagging. Patients often choose this procedure as a way to “turn back the clock” before considering a more comprehensive facelift later on.

However, candidacy is not determined by age alone. Skin elasticity, bone structure, and overall health are just as important. During your consultation, I will carefully evaluate your unique facial anatomy and discuss which procedure, or combination of procedures will best meet your goals.

Choosing the Right Procedure

The decision between a mini-facelift, full facelift, or neck lift comes down to your personal concerns and desired results. While a mini-facelift can be an excellent choice for addressing jowls and folds in the lower face, it is not designed to correct sagging in the neck. Patients who want a more comprehensive rejuvenation often choose to combine procedures for balanced, natural results.

A mini-facelift is a powerful tool for restoring a youthful look to the mid and lower face, but it does not include tightening of the neck. If your concerns extend below the jawline, you may benefit from a full facelift or a neck lift. The best way to determine the right approach is through a personalized consultation, where we can review your goals and design a treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
