Sometimes, after a surgical procedure, treatment or illness, a person will experience stubborn swelling and their physician may recommend a lymphatic drainage massage. I’m often asked how a lymphatic drainage massage can help.

A lymphatic drainage massage works by opening up natural lymphatic drainage channels in the body to help lymph move to areas with working lymph vessels. Lymph is a watery fluid that flows through our body to support our overall health. It delivers nutrients to the blood and helps the body dispose of toxins. With respect to plastic surgery, natural swelling that occurs after a procedure can occlude lymph drainage channels and prevent proper drainage.

A lymphatic drainage massage can speed up lymph drainage and decrease the swelling. A lymphatic drainage massage can be useful after a facelift procedure or liposuction.
