It really depends on the type of breast implant to determine if it can rupture during a mammogram. As a professional plastic surgeon in Jacksonville, I have seen some of the older silicone gel breast implants rupture after a mammogram or trauma, however, newer breast implants, in general, should not rupture during a mammogram.  Mammograms can usually be performed without the risk of implant rupture.

If you are unsure or worried if your breast implant may rupture during a mammogram, it’s best to be examined by your doctor or a plastic surgeon before-hand and find out what risks you may face with your mammogram.
